Christmas decor really has a way of stealing the show during the holiday season. I tell you, walking the isles of Home Goods or browsing the drool-worthy home tours online can be just about too much to handle. The twinkle lights and rustic, woodsy decor seems to have crept its way into the hearts of many, and I’m not mad one bit. And when I say it can be almost too much to handle, I mean that in the most literal sense. The decor and designs are so incredibly creative that you begin to feel like you want it all! This year, however, I resisted the urge to buy, buy, buy, and decided to take a look around at what I already had in my home and get crafty with some simple DIY projects. It’s amazing what you can do with what you already have if you simply choose to look at things through a different lens. I would love to share my mini holiday home tour which features a few ways I saved on Christmas decor this season.
Tip #1 – Update Framed Photos – Swap out framed photos for “wintery” or Christmas pictures. I used our engagement photos that we took last December!
Tip #2 – Use Your Clothes – I used this plaid scarf to add holiday cheer to our entryway.
Tip #3 – Print Free Printables – I designed this reindeer printable which you can find here on the blog!
Tip #4 – Hang Live Wreaths – My sweet Mother bought this wreath for me from Trader Joe’s! It cost $4.99, but looks and smells like a million bucks.
Tip #5 – Decorate With Mason Jars – Use mason jars as candle holders or vases. Im a sucker for mason jars, which serve a dual purpose of glassware and decor. You can buy them by the dozens at grocery and craft stores!
Tip #6 – Hang Bunting Banners – Hang bunting banners on fireplaces, frames, doorways, and chalkboards! I created this Merry and Bright banner which can be found here on the blog for free!
Tip #7 – Cute Tree Stand – I found this galvanized bucket for $20 at Home Depot and turned it into a tree stand!
Tip #8 – DIY Tree Decor – Decorate your tree with DIY tree decor. I created this white-washed wood garland and chalkboard star with Michael’s craft supplies for under $15.
Tip #9 – Move Furniture – Move furniture or decor pieces around your home to make things feel new and festive. I moved this wood shelf from the garage to our entryway and I just love it.
Tip #10 – Hang Wreaths – Hang wreaths on mirrors, frames, windows, curtain rods, and chalkboards. They are all over our home!
Tip #11 – Update Chalkboards – Update the chalkboard quotes and sayings around your home. A simple “Merry Christmas” will do the trick!
Tip #12 – Candles, Twinkle Lights, & Christmas Tree Greenery – Hang twinkle lights and light candles to give your home that sparkly Christmas feel. I also cut a few branches off of our Christmas tree and put them in vases which has added a festive look to all of the rooms in our home.
I hope you are able to use some of these decor ideas to bring holiday cheer to your home! Wishing you a very merry holiday season.
