The other day my sister-in-law mentioned she hadn’t updated the bedding in their master bedroom since her and my brother got married. I’m sure that sounds familiar to so many of you! Often times, the master bedroom is left for last, or even neglected altogether. There are so many other spaces throughout the house that are more frequently seen by guests, and used by everyone else in the house, so I can see why it often takes a backseat.

I thought it would be fun to put together a budget friendly bedroom refresh to surprise them with! It felt like I was channeling my inner Joanna Gaines from an episode of Fixer Upper on this one haha. I started by creating a mood board with a roundup of affordable pieces that worked well together. The first thing I ordered was this really affordable headboard from Amazon. The king size is under $150! Then, I added other affordable decorative items like this gorgeous rug, lamps, and throw blanket. I’ve linked everything for you in the roundup below!

If you’re looking to makeover your bedroom on a budget, here are a few things to consider to keep the cost low!
Cost Saving Tips
1. Purchase a headboard instead of a full bed frame. The one I used is an affordable Amazon find and the quality is great!
2. Opt for an affordable textiles. Rugs and throws come in various styles and price points, so find one that fits your budget! Did I mention you can get 60% off this rug right now? An 8X10 would only cost you $274! I also purchased this striped fringe throw for just $29 and love the way it looks.
3. Simplify your space by removing clutter and adding decorative items that compliment your furniture. Decor like foliage, vases, and frames can get you pretty far!
4. Remove unsightly distractions like old blinds, outdated pictures, and technology. I removed the accordion blinds and replaced them with drapes, and also swapped the work space with an accent chair. This made the room feel warm and inviting!
5. Shop your house! Find things around your home or in your garage that aren’t being used. Often times, giving them a new location gives them a whole new look!
6. Purchase digital artwork as an affordable alternative to expensive art prints. The one I used is ‘Hazy Lakefront’ from my art collection, Collection Prints. I had it printed by a local printer, PJ Printers, and framed it in the IKEA RIBBA frame. The frame is a 24×36 matted down to a 20×30.
7. Replace knobs and pulls on generic furniture pieces to make them look more custom. I recommend these knobs if you’re in the market for some!
