Tips For Styling Greenery Around Your Home

Make sure to subscribe so you never miss a post!

It’s no secret our home is pretty neutral. Monochromatic even. Give me all the clean lines and pretty white walls! The lack of color throughout our home is one of the reasons I always have fresh greenery styled in each room.

They also add a unique design element that finishes off a space like nothing else can! I am often questioned about how I keep the greenery fresh and styled for as long as possible, so today I’m dishing all the details about our greenery. I’m sharing where I get mine, my tips for making it last longer, and all my favorite foliage (real and faux) and vases too!

Before I start in on the tips, I thought I would answer a few commonly asked questions here. I purchase all of our eucalyptus and flowers from Trader Joe’s. The key is to get there early as they have a limited stock of eucalyptus during the spring and summer months! You can also call ahead and ask them to put it on hold for you. I source the olive branches from local trees around town. California is stocked with tons of amazing olive trees so I’m not lacking in resources. My most recent purchase was a pineapple guava tree. You heard that right! So random, I know. I was actually planning on purchasing an olive tree, but the pineapple guava was much more affordable and I actually prefer the look of it much better!

If you don’t have olive trees or Trader Joe’s near you, I’ve got you covered! Links to fresh and faux are listed below!

Tips for Styling Greenery:

  1. Work with odd numbered stems. I usually stick to groups of 3, 5, and 7.

  2. The height of the greenery from the top of the vase to the end of the stem should be as long or longer than the vase itself to keep things looking proportionate.

  3. Use smaller vases (like mason jars) to hold water and greenery inside larger vases. I do this in almost all my vases that have a large enough opening!

  4. Use Tupperware or any other item to prop up the smaller vases inside an oversized vase. I stack about three small Tupperware inside the oversized vase in our entryway!

  5. Use vase fillers to hold oversized stems in place.

Tips for Making Greenery Last:

I keep my greenery for three weeks at a time! Here is what I do to keep it fresh.

  1. Remove any low hanging leaves to be sure they are not touching the water.

  2. Add fresh water every other day.

  3. Keep out of direct sunlight.

  4. I open our windows every morning to let the fresh, cold air in. I close them before heading to work which keeps the house cool and the greenery from wilting.
