A Busy Girl’s Guide To A Clean House

Don’t let my Instagram for you. It’s not like our house never gets dirty. Of course it can get messy and dirty at times because that’s just life! But overall, I do keep it pretty tidy because for better or worse, I’m highly affected by my surroundings. Our home is my sanctuary, a creative platform, and a calming retreat that I look forward to coming home to. For these reasons and more, I’ve made it a priority to keep our home clean no matter how busy life can get!

Two of my most commonly asked questions are about how I clean my floors and what cleaning products I use in our house. Seventh GenerationMethod, and Meyer’s cleaning products, SOS pads, and a Swiffer duster and mop are my loyal cleaning companions. They have less harsh chemicals than other mainstream cleaning products and work really well! Oh, and that pile of old, mix-and-match rags you have towering in your cupboard? Get rid of them and buy this pack of white rags! I stick to white rags and towels to keep my cleaning cupboard looking clean and organized.

I clean our floors with my favorite vacuum and the Method Squirt & Mop solution (there is also one for wood floors here). I like this because you don’t have to waste the product by pouring it into a bucket of water. I simply fill up a bucket of warm water, squirt the solution on the floor, and scrub it with a long-handle brush. I then walk around the floor with large towels on my feet to soak up the extra water. Pretty fascinating, right? 😉

If you’re still reading this post I suppose it’s safe to assume you’re doing your best to keep a clean house amongst a long list of other responsibilities. It can be challenging at times for sure, but here are a few cleaning tips that have been helpful for me. Hope they are for you as well!

Cleaning Tips

1. Tidy-Up Before Bed

Spend 5 minutes before bed cleaning up clothes, straightening furniture, and putting away dishes so you can wake up to a tidy home.

2. Establish A Routine

Create a routine or cleaning schedule to help you tackle tasks efficiently. I prefer to get all my cleaning done at once, so I wake up at 6AM on Saturdays, open the windows, turn on the music and get it done!

3. Set A Timer

When things get messy and I feel overwhelmed, I’ll set a timer for 20 minutes and accomplish as much as I can. This keeps me on task and helps me work efficiently.

4. Recruit Help

I’ve made the mistake of trying to do it all myself. Working full time, cooking, cleaning, tutoring, blogging, and leaving room for fun requires Jordan and I to work as a team. While I do tackle most of the household chores, he cleans the bathrooms and vacuums each weekend (well, most of the time anyways). I’ve grown accustomed to asking for help instead of trying to accomplish it all on my own!

5. Have Less, Clean Less

Having a clean house doesn’t mean you have to spend a ton of time cleaning. I’m a firm believer that it’s pretty easy to have a clean house as long as everything has a place, and the cleaning supplies are easily accessible! I purge our house about every three months. Keeping clean closets and cupboards helps keep our home clean, and requires less effort to keep it that way.

I hope these tips were helpful to you! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read. Don’t forget to subscribe to receive my monthly newsletter and blogpost roundup!
