A Modern Backyard Makeover

Here are a few pictures of what our yard looked like prior to renovation!

And this is the after! Let’s just start off by saying I’m not quiiiite done with this space yet… but its coming along for sure! We renovated our backyard a few years ago and have been waiting to furnish this space with the perfect pieces. Our backyard went from overgrown and outdated to a modern California oasis (or at least that’s how I like to think of it ;)). We had all the trees, shrubs, old patio and concrete removed, and painted the house. Shoutout to Jordan’s family who helped us paint the entire exterior! We added a block retaining wall that was then covered with stucco. The simple patio cover was created with douglas fir wood stained with the ‘natural beige’ by Minwax.

I think if I could change one thing about the design it would be to add more shade to our backyard. I like the look of the patio cover, but it would be nice to have just a bit more coverage for the warm summer months! I’ve been brainstorming ways to do this and might even add some canvas pieces to the patio cover to achieve this. We’ll see what I come up with!

A few weeks ago we got out Outer Sofas in and I couldn’t be happier with them. These sofas are top of the line and built for comfort and durability. One of the reasons I chose this set is because they have waterproof cover them pull over the top from behind. Combined with the complex design of each cushion, we will be able to enjoy our Outer Sofas for years to come. If you’re interested in the sofas I’d encourage you to go read about them here! They have various arrangements to choose from and lots of detailed information about the thoughtful design that went into creating this gorgeous set.

My friend over at Hackner Home provided these outdoor pillows and I just adore them! The quality and design are simply stunning. They are 22″ pillow covers filled with 24″ inserts. Jona informed me that you should always size up when using polyester inserts for outdoor pillows! This keeps them looking full and plush.

I decided to move our family room coffee table outside because it was the exact look I needed to pull the space together. It all blends perfectly with our new jute rug! This rug did not disappoint. The color and texture are perfect! It’s technically an indoor rug, so it would be great to use in your home. I’ll keep you updated on how well it does outdoors! Now I’m on the hunt for a few more accessories including a garden stool, side tables (just bought them today!), and maybe a few lanterns and decor items. Can’t wait to finish the space and show you what’s next!
