Toddler Kitchen Makeover

I finally finished Weston’s play kitchen and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. This project was a labor of love for sure, but definitely worth it because Weston loves it AND it actually looks pretty adorable in our living room. It’s a win-win in my book!

In case you’re interested in tackling the same project, here are the steps I followed:

Instructions:

1. Purchase the toddler kitchen HERE

2. Sort the pieces into two groups, the top and bottom pieces. You will be sanding and painting the lower portion and leaving the top as it!

3. Lightly sand the bottom pieces. I used 220 grit sand paper and my electric sander.

4. Apply two coats of primer.

5. Apply two top coats to each piece using the color of your choice. Here are the colors I used: sink – Rust-Oleum satin white spray paint / faucet – Rust-Oleum metallic spray paint / cupboards – Sherwin Williams Repose Gray in semi-gloss. I added three coats of satin clear top coat to the plastic pieces to prevent chipping.

6. Make ’tile’ backsplash. I made a backsplash by copying an image to PowerPoint to resize and assemble it the way I wanted. Then I saved it as an image and had it printed at Walgreens on their poster board in the 20×30 size. I cut it to fit the back of the kitchen and used Gorilla Glue to attach it to the back.

7. Assemble the kitchen and add accessories! I linked everything I used in this post, and should note I used Gorilla Glue to attach the wood knobs as well!

And there you have it. Like I said earlier, definitely a lot of work for something so simple, but I absolutely loved how it turned out and am so glad I did it! 🙂
