How to Organize Christmas Decor

Organization Essentials

Now that the New Year is here, our Christmas decor is officially down! I thought I’d give a few tips for storing your holiday decor until the Christmas season rolls around again. Here is what I do to keep things nice and tidy!

1. Determine Your Location

I store all excess decor and home goods in the garage. I only keep what I use on a regular basis in the house. Everything else goes in the garage! Somehow it allows me to keep a clear head knowing the house isn’t cluttered with extra ‘stuff’.

2. Invest in Storage

We purchased two metal racks for our garage and store all our excess items, including Christmas decor, in plastic tubs that we organize on the racks. I dedicate four of the bins to my Christmas decor! Having a dedicated space for your Christmas decor makes putting it away quick and easy. I think it only took me about 30 minutes to take it all down and store it! Target, Walmart, The Container Store, and Home Depot are great places to find storage bins. I got my small round ornament bins from the 99 Cent store so make sure to check there and see if they have any in stock!

3. Sort and Purge Each Year

At the end of each holiday season I go through my Christmas decor bins and decide what I want to keep and get rid of. If I haven’t used something for a while, I’ll give it to family and friends or donate it to a local donation center.

4. Organize by Category

Like I mentioned, I have four bins dedicated to Christmas decor. One bins is for ornaments, one for garlands and greens, and two for the rest of my decor and accents.

Hope that helps! Best of luck organizing all the things! 😉
