Before

After

door (specifications and stain listed here) / black door handle and lock set / rug / basket (similar option here) / black mules
Our front door has been installed and stained! It feels like I’m walking into a hotel whenever I walk into our house now haha. I mean, the door actually opens simply by pulling the handle. That alone is a win! We’re pretty thrilled that our days of working some magic to go in and out of the house (which required turning, shaking, and pushing the door all at once) are behind us 😉 Is there anything in your home that requires a magic trick in order to get it to work?

After lots of thought, I decided to go with two coats of stain on the door! It was such a tough decision because I REALLY liked the tone with one coat. But, with our light interior flooring on the inside, and a soon-to-be white exterior, a little contrast was in order! The darker stain also ties in with some of the medium wood tones we have in our living room, which makes the whole space feel cohesive and put together! Here are some details on the door and stain…
The Door Details
– Door: 1 Single Exterior Fir 4 Lite Over Raised Panel from Doortodoor.com in size 36″X80″
– Wood: Douglas fir wood. Not primed.
– Glass: Clear – Single lite with grids (which means the lites are not truly divided)
– Hinge: Matte black
– Threshold: Bronze
– Jam Kit Material: 5 1/2 Primed (I had it primed to paint white. You could also have it unprimed if you planned to stain it the same color as the door).
– Swing: Left hand inswing
The Stain Details
– 1 coat Old Masters Gel Stain in Pickling White
– 2 coats Chroma Chem Satin in Raw Umber (the painted said he got this at Vista Paint)
– 2 coats Deft Water Based Polyurethane Sealer in Clear Satin (one coat of sealer was applied after each coat of the Raw Umber stain)
Coming Up
Next, we’re having our exterior painted and finishing the porch and entryway. The painters are actually coming TODAY to get started with the prep! An I’m still trying to decide what else we need in the interior entryway. I’m thinking maybe a vertical shiplap wall with hooks here by the front door. What do you think?
I’ll keep you updated on the exterior porch update, including the paint colors and decor. Stay tuned!!!
