5 Affordable Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look More Custom

We renovated our bathroom a few months ago (see all the before and afters HERE), but finally got our shower door installed just recently. It’s so nice to have it complete… finally! Today I’m sharing a closer look at our shower door and giving five ways to make your bathroom look more custom, even if you’re on a tight budget.

Get the Look

1. Upgrade Shower Hardware

I really wanted a custom shower door for our bathroom, but ultimately went with a very standard door just for simplicity’s sake and cost savings. To make it look a little more custom, I opted for a round knob instead of a standard shower pull, and also upgraded the knob and hinges to a polished silver instead of the generic chrome. You can have the shower door hardware upgraded to match the shower plumbing for very little cost. I believe it cost me just $50-$100 extra to upgrade!

For my local readers, I used OC Direct Shower Door and the entire door cost $675. This included measurement, installation, and the hardware upgrades. They had a selection of shower glass, knobs and handles to choose from. I went with a polished nickel knob and 3/8″ clear glass. It’s important to choose the hardware ahead of time because they fabricate it accordingly! Hope that helps 🙂

2. Incorporate Millwork

Creating a wood accent wall using shiplap, board and batten, or molding is a great way to make your bathroom look more custom. You can hire this job out or even complete it as a DIY if you’re feeling up to the challenge! I did vertical shiplap 3/4 of the way up the wall and love how much it adds to the space.

3. Paint, Paint, Paint

Paint can get you SO FAR! Before renovating our master bathroom, I updated both our bathrooms by painting the oak vanities white (guide to painting your bathroom vanity HERE). In this current bathroom design, I used Jogging Path by Sherwin Williams to make a statement on the shiplap. The top of the walls is painted Pure White by Sherwin Williams. Our statement wall is just one example of how you can use paint to create an affordable, custom look in your bathroom.

4. Update Cabinet Pulls

Updating cabinet pulls can help you create a look you love regardless of your budget. There are so many options available at various price points! (linked some bathroom hardware options HERE)

5. Add Unique Accents

A few of my favorite accents in our bathrooms are the vintage stool and Turkish towels. These two are a perfect example of mixing unique high and low priced items to make your bathroom feel custom.

Hope you found a few of these tips helpful! Thanks for stopping by the blog today 🙂
