10 Simple Healthy Habits I’ve Started Recently

Jordan and I have been building our home gym over the past year. It’s nothing fancy… just in the garage haha. We’d been looking for a cardio machine and opted for the MYX stationary bike since it has tons of great features, like interactive classes for biking and floor exercise too. And it’s reasonably priced! They gave me a code to share with you, it’s HALFWAYWHOLEISTIC and will save you $175 at checkout. Free shipping and assembly are included!

In addition to our bike, I’ve recently added a few health habits to my daily/weekly routine as well! Thought you guys might like these too 🙂 You’ll have to let me know of you do any of these already!

Start Dry Brushing

I use a dry brush to exfoliate my skin once a week. The idea is that the coarse fibers help to remove dead skin and improve the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins through the pores. To get started, use a natural-bristle brush to gently but firmly brush your skin in long strokes toward your heart, usually going over each area two or three times. At your belly, you brush in a clockwise motion. This is typically done before showering!

Cold Water Rinse

I always end my showers with FREEZING cold water. It’s not the most comfortable thing in the world haha, but the benefits are worth it! Studies have shown that exposing our bodies to cold water a few times a week can improve circulation, boost metabolism, increase endorphins, and help fight off common illnesses. The shock of the cold water can stimulate leukocytes, which are cells that fight against foreign substances and disease.

Double Down on Facial Cleansing

My skin has been so much healthier since I started double cleansing at night. I use this makeup melt to remove my makeup, and follow it up with my favorite facial cleanser. I love these products because they keep my skin clean and clear without drying it out! You can watch my natural beauty routine from start to finish HERE.

Stop Burning. Start Diffusing.

Diffusing essential oils is a much healthier way to scent your air and add ambiance to your home. Plus, it’s fun to create your own scents with the oils!

Increase Vitamin D Intake

I’ve been reading a lot about the importance of Vitamin D recently so I added it to my daily vitamin regiment. It’s been argued that Vitamin D is the most important vitamin you could take to improve overall health since vitamin D affects our entire body. I also make sure to spend time outdoors each day to absorb natural vitamin D from the sun!

Evaluate Your Diet

Altering my diet has changed my life drastically. It has been the solution to my cystic acne, crippling chronic pain (arthritis), and constant stomach pain/bloating. I resolved these health issues by eliminated gluten, dairy, processed foods, caffeine, and alcohol from my diet. All of these foods are known to cause inflammation in some people, so eliminating them is a good place to start if you’re having health issues. I also make sure to purchase all organic foods too! Focusing on reducing stress, eating healthy whole foods, and drinking lots of water has helped me reach a point where I don’t have to rely on any medication for pain management or my acne.

I want to note that if you suffer from chronic pain like I do, chiropractic care has made the BIGGEST difference for me. I get my ankle, back, and neck adjusted once a month and it helps reduce pain by keeping everything in alignment. Highly recommend looking for a chiropractor you trust in your area!

Learn 1 New Healthy Recipe Each Week

It’s all about taking small steps towards better overall health! I’ve challenged myself to learn one new healthy recipe per week. One of my favorites lately has been this Roasted Veggie Enchilada Casserole. Jordan loves it too!

Use Natural Body Soap

I researched a few different brands, and ended up going with Dr. Bonner’s unscented! Since our skin is out largest organ, it’s important to reduce the amount of toxins we take in through soaps and lotions. Using natural soap is a great first step in doing that! While we’re on the topic of soap, I like to make sure I use natural soap for everything, including hand, dish, and detergent! Such an easy way to incorporate more natural products in your home.

Sleep With a Silk Pillowcase

I’ve been doing this one few a few years now! Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase helps prevent your hair from being damaged, and protects your skin while you sleep too!

Make a Green Smoothie For You and Your Family

One of the ways I make sure Weston gets his greens is by making a smoothie each day. I mix:

  • 1-2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 cup frozen organic blueberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen organic strawberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/3 frozen banana (I peel, cut, and freeze after buying)
  • 1/2 fresh spinach
  • 1/2 container coconut milk yogurt (blueberry or strawberry flavor)
  • Blend and more milk as needed. Drink as a smoothie or top with granola and eat as a bowl. If I top the smoothie bowl with organic flax and pumpkin seed granola, Weston will eat the whole thing without fail!
