Creating Cohesion in Your Home

Have you ever wondered how to make your home feel like it flows from room to room? Keeping everything cohesive can be challenging when you consider all the elements of design. From floors to finishes, furniture to decor, you want to make sure each individual item works together to create a cohesive bigger picture.

Insert mind-blown emoji here haha. No but seriously, coordinating everything throughout your home doesn’t have to be complicated. I have a very simple rule for you to follow, and that is…. REPETITION!

Repeating finishes, materials, colors, textures, and patterns throughout your home is what makes it feel like a unified space. Take our living room for example. The color black I repeated in the throw blanket, stool, vase, picture frame, table lamp, and decorative vases. It’s the repetition that draws our eye to see it as a cohesive space rather than a collage of individual items.

This concept can be applied in each individual room and throughout your home as a whole. Another example from our home is the use of the same tile in our guest and master bathroom. It’s okay to repeat even the larger materials like this, especially if your home is on the small side, but definitely make sure to do it with wood tones and colors.

Hope that’s helpful. Happy decorating!
