Demo Day at the Elmwood Lake House

Demo day is complete! Our construction team is simply the best. They worked so fast and efficiently!

The renovation will transform pretty much the whole house, but we’re making a few big changes that will have a big impact. Our contractor said he will be done in about 1.5-2 months which is great news!

First, we will be painting the entire interior and exterior. We’ll also be updating the flooring throughout the house as well as all the lighting and electrical. That in its self will make such a big difference.

Entryway, Dining Room, and Kitchen

The entryway and kitchen walls are gone! We were able to completely open up this area which will make it feel bigger and better. I wanted the kitchen, dining, and living area to flow together so I can be a part of the fun while I’m cooking 😉

After Demo

The kitchen will get a complete makeover. I’ve spent countless hours trying to come up with the perfect layout and I think I’ve finally got it! I’ll share the kitchen plans soon.

*But the wall is gone now too

Living Room

You’ll also notice the front living room wall paneling is gone! We’re replacing the slanted wood panels with straight vertical ones to match the rest of the room. This simple change will allow the front wall to be the focal point of the room.

For now, we’ve decided to keep the river rock. I’ll either do some sort of mortar over the top or leave it as is. Still undecided on that. Let me know what you think I should do! And of course, I’ll be replacing that mantel with a really pretty one! 🙂

Staircase

The staircase will get a brand new look. Going with a sleek metal railing here!

Bathrooms

Both bathrooms are receiving a full update. The downstairs bathroom has been demoed, but we’re leaving the upstairs functional for the crew to use while the renovation is in progress.

Ceilings

I really want to keep the wood ceilings and paint the walls. Hopefully we can find a way to get them to more of a natural wood tone that’s not too expensive! The choices are really sand and stain, walnut blast, or sandblast. I’ll be meeting with the painter this weekend so hopefully he has some ideas for me!

Paint and Exterior

The interior and exterior will get painted and the deck refinished. I’m trying to decide if we should go light or dark. What do you think?! Since I’m meeting the painter this weekend I’ll need to make a decision soon.

I think that’s it for now! I’ll be sharing the detailed designs for each room in the weeks to come, so stay tuned.
