The Design Vision
For our kitchen renovation, we wanted a space that felt timeless yet modern, with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. We aimed for a minimal, traditional aesthetic with a modern organic twist — combining classic elements with contemporary touches for a look that’s both elegant and approachable.
Cabinetry: A Classic Foundation
The custom inset cabinets are a true highlight of our kitchen, painted in Benjamin Moore Natural Cream. This soft, warm neutral tone brings an understated elegance to the space. We opted for inset cabinetry for its refined, seamless look, adding a touch of traditional craftsmanship. The cabinets offer a sophisticated canvas for our hardware, which brings us to the next element!
Hardware: Subtle Elegance
We chose Rejuvenation knobs, pulls, and appliance pulls in the ‘burnished brass’ finish. The subtle sheen of burnished brass perfectly complements the warm undertones of the Natural Cream cabinetry, adding a hint of sophistication without overpowering the overall design. The blend of traditional and modern style in the hardware was just what we were looking for to complete the cabinetry.
Countertops: The Timeless Beauty of Marble
We partnered with Marble Unlimited in Orange County, CA, to select our honed marble countertops. We wanted a surface that felt classic and timeless, and this marble does just that. The subtle, consistent veining gives it an elegant look without feeling too busy, tying in beautifully with our minimal aesthetic. The honed finish offers a softer, more matte texture, which is not only beautiful but also forgiving when it comes to everyday wear.
Flooring: Warmth Underfoot
Our flooring choice was a key part of the design, as we wanted something that would add warmth and a natural feel to the space. We chose Bordeaux Engineered Hardwood Plank from Bedrosians in the color ‘Chambord.’ The rich, warm tones of these engineered wood floors perfectly complement the cabinetry and countertops, grounding the space and creating a cohesive look throughout.
Appliances: A Statement Piece
The Ilve Nostalgie II 36 in. Black Range is the showstopper of our kitchen. Its classic design, paired with modern functionality, makes it both a beautiful focal point and a high-performance appliance. The black finish ties in with our Milgard black windows, creating a striking contrast against the lighter elements in the room.
Lighting: Function Meets Style
Lighting is such an important part of setting the tone for a space, and our Ada Enamel Pendant Lights do just that. Their clean, simple design adds a modern touch, while the enamel finish offers a timeless appeal. These pendants provide a warm, inviting glow that perfectly illuminates our island and adds to the cozy ambiance we wanted to achieve.
Sink & Faucet: A Timeless Duo
For the sink, we went with the Kohler Whitehaven farmhouse sink. Its deep, spacious design is perfect for everything from washing dishes to filling pots, and the classic white finish blends seamlessly with our honed marble countertops. Paired with a sleek bridge faucet and pot filler, it combines style and functionality in the best way possible.
Windows: Framing the View
The Milgard black windows are a stunning feature in our kitchen. They frame the view beautifully, adding a crisp, clean contrast to the softer tones in the space. The black finish ties in with our Ilve range, creating a cohesive look that balances the light and dark elements in the room.
Finishing Touches: Styling and Decor
For the finishing touches, I layered in pieces that bring warmth and personality to the space:
Loloi Josie Runner: This runner brings a pop of pattern and a touch of softness to our wood floors. Its muted tones tie in with our neutral color palette, while the intricate design adds a subtle visual interest.
Faux Leather Counter Stools: These counter stools add a modern touch to our traditional space. The faux leather seats are not only stylish but also practical for a busy kitchen, offering a comfortable and easy-to-clean seating option.
Wall Color: A Soft, Warm Backdrop
We chose Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee for the walls. This creamy white paint is a perfect neutral backdrop, adding a soft, warm glow that complements our cabinetry and wood tones without feeling stark. It brightens the space and creates a light, airy atmosphere.
My Final Thoughts
We couldn’t be happier with how our kitchen turned out! Each element was chosen with care to create a space that feels like the heart of our home — warm, welcoming, and full of character. From the classic, timeless beauty of the honed marble countertops to the cozy warmth of the engineered wood floors, every detail has come together to create a kitchen that we’ll love for years to come.
Whether we’re cooking a family meal, entertaining friends, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee in the morning, this kitchen is a space that truly feels like home. I hope you love it as much as we do!
