If there is one rule I’m following for holiday decorating this year, it’s this: less is more.

I recently shared a sneak peek of our bedroom on Instagram, and I wanted to dive a little deeper here on the blog. I know how easy it is to feel pressured to overhaul every single corner of the house with red and green, but this year, I really wanted our bedroom to feel like a peaceful retreat – not a cluttered workshop.
As I mentioned in my caption, “A few simple holiday touches go a long way.” Here is a look at how I brought the holiday spirit into our primary bedroom without overwhelming the space.

The Strategy: Layering, Not Replacing
Instead of packing away my everyday decor, I simply layered seasonal elements right on top of my existing pieces. This saves so much time (and storage space!).
Here are the details on this year’s vignette:
The Wreath Layer: I took a simple evergreen wreath and hung it directly over the large black art piece above the dresser. It frames the greenery perfectly and adds that festive texture without needing a new spot on the wall.
The Ribbon: To warm up the greenery, I tied a long, velvet ribbon in a caramel/gold tone. I love how the loose, long tails soften the look and tie in with the natural wood tones of the dresser.
Winter Stems: I swapped out my usual florals for these tall, dramatic stems with red berries. Placed in my textured earthenware vases, they add just the right amount of “Christmas Red” while keeping the vibe organic and earthy.
Subtle Nods: Finally, a sleek little reindeer figurine on the bookstack adds a whimsical touch that feels sophisticated rather than kitschy.

Creating Calm
The reason I love this setup is that it respects the neutral palette of the room. The creams, the wood tones of the dresser, and the soft white shiplap ceiling all remain the heroes of the room. The holiday decor complements the calmness rather than competing with it.

Let me know in the comments – do you go all out in the bedroom for Christmas, or do you keep it simple like this?
