There’s something about watching a movie outside that instantly makes an ordinary evening feel special. Whatever it is, our backyard movie night reminded me that some of the best family memories aren’t made during big vacations or elaborate plans, they’re created in the simple moments at home when everyone slows down and enjoys being together. It also reminded me that it’s never too late to start a family tradition.

I think we often put pressure on ourselves to create magical childhoods, imagining traditions have to begin when our kids are toddlers or that they need to be perfectly planned. Sometimes all it takes is a projector, a favorite movie, and an evening set aside to be present with the people you love. Those are often the memories that end up lasting the longest.
