5 Steps To Style Your Shelves For Fall

Updated our family room shelves for fall today! As usual, I started with a neutral base and added in some new accessories to warm it up for the new season. You may notice a few new things liked the brass vases, ceramic pumpkin, wooden candlesticks, black knot, and artwork. All of them are super affordable and perfect for fall! Here are a few tips that will help transform your shelves for fall:

5 Steps For Perfectly Styled Shelves

1. Update Your Decor

I always like to refresh my decor with just a few seasonal items. Take time to pick out things you LOVE rather than running to Home Goods and picking out random decor. I find this creates a more curated space that you will love for years to come. You’ll also notice you keep your decor around longer when it was purchased with a purpose!

2. Clear Off And Clean The Shelves

Even if you’re going to be using some of the same decor, take everything off and clean the shelves for a fresh start.

3. Organize And Arrange Decor

I start by organizing all the decor on the floor in piles according to their color or tone. This allows you to see everything you’re working with and will help you mix and match the items easily.

4. Alternate Tones, Textures, and Colors

Place the various colors throughout the shelves so that your eye catches the same color equally throughout the shelf space. Work to evenly distribute the colors, tones, and textures throughout the area so it blends together nicely.

5. Get Perspective And Adjust As Needed

It won’t always be perfect on the first try. Take a step back to assess your work and keep arranging until you get it just right! Make minor adjustments as needed so everything feels balanced and cohesive.

Ill be shooting the rest of the family room once our bench arrives this week! So stay tuned for more updates and be sure to shop all my favorite shelf decor below. Tag me in your shelf styling options so I can repost in my stories 🙂

  1. Katie, I really appreciate your post on how to pull together a look you love as opposed to running to Home Goods for random stuff(🙋‍♀️). Your taste and style are gorgeous and you explain the how’s and why’s of design and style. I am guilty of having my home look like row of seasonal Michaels stuff and not liking it. I appreciate all your efforts on IG and the blog posts!!!😍
