New Family Room Arrangement

The Before

First Arrangement

New Arrangement

I completed a family room makeover a few months ago and have been making minor adjustments ever since. Good design takes time, and often times some minor tweaking! Before I added our new sofa and leather chairs, we had a sectional sofa in this room. The sectional seemed to cut the room in half, making it feel small and dark.

Adding a stand alone sofa has been much better, and I’m loving it even more now that it’s facing the fireplace! This allows the natural light to flow freely, and also makes the room feel cozy and inviting while maintaining a feeling of openness.

Originally, I placed the sofa and chairs perpendicular to the fireplace because it was important for there to be as much seating as possible in the family room. This is where we spend most of our time and I thought having the chairs face away from the fireplace (where our TV is mounted when I’m not photographing it) wouldn’t make sense! After thinking about it though I realized it’s mostly just Jordan and I in this room so there’s no need to compromise on the furniture arrangement for the few times out of the month or year we need additional seating facing the TV.

Hopefully this room inspires your and gives you a few ideas for your home! It might even serve as a reminder that your original design might not be your final design… and that’s okay! Tweaking and adjusting is all part of the fun! Drop a comment below and let me know what you think 🙂

  1. It looks so good! Also, I just picked up that pillow from pottery barn last week! I love it for fall. This new arrangement looks so cozy for the new season, and I love your new bench/ottoman/coffee table! You are so talented and always give me so much inspiration 🙂

  2. I absolutely love it (as always!)… but now I must know, do you move your tv every time you photograph your living room? 😱 dedication, sis!
