Bathroom Progress Update:

Sharing a little progress update on our bathroom renovation! If you missed the initial post, you can see the project announcement here and follow along on my Instagram highlight titled ‘guest bathroom’ here.

So far our contractor demoed just about everything, fixed the plumbing and electrical, installed the shiplap, and started painting! There’s still quite a bit left to do so the bathroom won’t be complete until next week. We can’t wait! It’s officially been three weeks since we started the project.

When our contractor starts working again this Friday, he will continue painting, tile the shower, install the vanity, and all other lighting, plumbing, and accessories.

I should also note that we have a new washer and dryer coming! They aren’t set to arrive until the end of June. Sort of a buzzkill to put the old ones back in this space, but after three weeks without them, I’m good with it! haha.

Bathroom Q&A:

What kind of shiplap do you use?

5″ primed tongue and groove

Where did you find your contractor?

I have always found my contractors through word of mouth! I’m currently working with a good friend’s father-in-law. I can’t give out his information because he’s not looking for additional jobs at the moment! So sorry! If you can’t find a contact through friends or family, maybe try asking on a local Facebook group or use an online forum like Thumbtack.

What paint color are you using?

Walls, ceiling, shiplap: Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee at 75% in matte

Baseboards: Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee at 75% in satin

I decided to go with Swiss Coffee at 75% for all walls, ceiling, and shiplap. This is the color of our baseboards throughout our house and is such a great, warm white! Reducing it to 75% intensity cuts the warmth just a little. All the baseboards in our home are Swiss Coffee. It’s been a color that has stood the test of time and is a great way to incorporate white in your home without it feeling too stark. We plan to update all the walls in our home to this color in the near future! I’ve also used White Dove at 75% which is a great warm white option as well.

Did you decide to move the laundry room to the garage?

We decided to keep our laundry room here, for now. However, it’s possible that we could run the plumbing through the other side of the wall and store the washer and dryer in a closet there. This would allow us to create a butler’s pantry right off the kitchen! At that point, we would reconfigure the kitchen to eliminate the peninsula and put the cooktop on the back wall. Hoping we can do that in another year or two!

How did you make the arch?

Our contractor basically crafted it by hand! He cut it and used flexible molding to wrap the inside, then patched everything and painted over it. There are companies that can make trim for arched doorways, but the wait was nearly two months so he just decided to do it himself. It was definitely a work of art on his part!

Let me know if you have any other questions! 🙂
