My all-time favorite rug is back in my living room for the Christmas and winter season! This is the Elle Ivory rug, and the texture is so gorgeous in person. It has thick, chunky wool loops that you can see from across the room.
Here’s my quick video, then why I love it, how I style it in my Christmas living room and everything I used, linked under each photo so you can swipe through to shop.
Why the Elle Ivory Rug Is My All-Time Favorite

It’s all about the texture. The Elle rug is handmade with chunky, looped wool, so even though it’s a solid ivory, it never looks flat. That nubby texture is what makes a light rug feel cozy instead of plain, and it’s the reason I keep bringing this one back.
Ivory is also the easiest color to decorate around. It brightens the floor, lets wood tones and greenery stand out, and works with every season. I linked the exact rug first, then the beige version and a few other textured neutral rugs I like.
How I Style an Ivory Rug in My Christmas Living Room

Getting ready for Christmas in here started with putting this rug back down. Here’s how I keep a light rug feeling warm and festive instead of stark:
- Ground it with warm wood. The rug sits under a solid wood coffee table, with a stone end table and wood floors around it, so all that ivory never feels cold.
- Repeat the ivory. A white sofa and linen pillows echo the rug, so the whole room reads soft and calm.
- Let the greenery bring the Christmas color. Garland on the mantel, little potted trees and a brass candlestick add the festive part without competing with the rug.
- Layer texture, not more color. Knit stockings, a chunky throw and linen pillows look so good next to the nubby wool.

Layering Cozy Textures on a Light Rug

A light rug is the perfect base for layering. If you want your living room to feel cozier for winter, these are the textures I’d reach for: a chunky knit or faux fur throw, a mix of pillow fabrics like linen, boucle and velvet, and a woven basket or two for blankets. Keep them all in the same warm neutral palette and let the texture do the work, so the room feels cozy without looking busy.
Tips for Living With a Light Rug

I know a light rug can feel a little scary, so here are a few simple things that help:
- Use a rug pad. It keeps the rug from shifting and adds a little extra cushion underfoot.
- Vacuum without the beater bar. Looped wool rugs do best with suction only, so the loops don’t get pulled or fuzzy.
- Blot spills right away. Use a clean white cloth and blot from the outside in, never rub, and check the care label before using any cleaner.
- Rotate it every few months so it wears evenly.
- Want something more forgiving? A rug with a vintage-style pattern or a mix of tones hides everyday life much better than a solid ivory. A few I love are below, and you can read my washable rug review too.
