How To Create a Design Board Featuring Blanco’s New Concrete Gray Sink

Special thanks to Blanco for sponsoring this post

When it comes to designing a space in your home, the first step should always be to source products and create a design board to lay out the plan. I get messages every single day asking me how I design spaces in our home and create design boards, so today I’m going to show you a step-by-step tutorial with the help of Blanco!

This kitchen design features Blanco’s farmhouse sink in their new color, concrete gray. This sink would be the perfect addition to any kitchen design, no matter what style you’re going for! Blanco’s sophisticated style and unique designs create a timeless look that you’ll love for years to come. Established in 1925, Blanco products have been sold in over 100 countries worldwide proving they are a brand you can trust. And when it comes to selecting products for your kitchen, that’s exactly what you should be looking for!

The Blanco concrete gray sink featured in this design is truly a timeless look. I find many people often opt for stainless steel sinks out of fear of going with white. But thanks to Blanco, there’s now a perfect alternative to the traditional white sink! Whether you’re looking to create a farmhouse, modern, or traditional kitchen this sink can set the stage for your design as it comes in three different styles. Another reason I love this new sink design is because it provides an organic look that blends well with all different types of fixtures and accents. As you can see in the design board, blending the sink with tile and other natural wood accessories provides a balanced and beautiful look.

Here is how I created this design board centered around this gorgeous concrete gray sink.

7 Steps For Creating a Mood Board (without fancy software!):

1. Access Microsoft Word on Your Computer

I use Microsoft Word for all my design boards. It’s quick, easy, and already installed on most computers which means you do not need fancy software! Open a new blank document and you’re ready to go!

2. Locate Products Online

If you can locate the exact product you will be using then great! If not, simply do a Google image search of the product you’re looking for and use that similar image. It’s important to find a clear product image, preferably with a blank background.

3. Copy and Paste the Image

Copy and paste your image into the Microsoft Word document. If it does not copy and paste properly try screenshotting the image or saving it and then adding it into your document.

4. Resize the Image

I usually bring it down to about 3-4 inches initially, and then adjust all the images sizes once each one has been added.

5. Format the Image

In order to freely move the image around the page, you will need to do these steps:

  1. RIGHT CLICK on the image
  2. SELECT ‘WRAP TEXT’
  3. SELECT ‘THROUGH’
  4. SELECT ‘FIX POSITION ON PAGE’

Applying these steps each time you paste an image into the document will allow you to freely move the image around without disrupting the other images. Don’t worry if the document gets a little crazy when you first paste the image, once you format it all the images will fall back into place.

6. Remove the Background

To remove the background on the photo, follow these simple steps:

  1. CLICK ON THE IMAGE
  2. SELECT ‘PICTURE FORMAT’ towards the top of your computer in your tool bar
  3. SELECT ‘REMOVE BACKGROUND’

At this point you will need to do some adjusting and get sued to using this tool. You can drag the box out or in to fit the image exactly. Also, the feature allows you to manually select or deselect parts of the image that you would like to keep or discard. There are a few images that will be very challenging to remove the background on, typically white images on a white background. In this case I simply crop them down as much as I can and move them to the back of the document so they don’t cover any of the other product photos.

7. Repeat Steps And Organize the Design Board

After all the images are imported and formatted, I organize them in a visually appealing way. I like to place four larger items in the corners and work in from there, but you can organize the design board however you think it looks best!

That’s it! Now you’re ready to start your project and watch your project come to life. Make sure to include one of Blanco’s may sink and faucet styles in your next kitchen design if you’re looking to achieve a timeless look you’ll love for years to come.
