Office Update: Why I Chose Built-in Cabinets Over French Doors

The other day I took a pull on Instagram about our office renovation. I asked for your thoughts on putting in french doors or built in cabinetry. The reviews were definitely mixed, but popular vote was in favor of the doors! After a great internal debate with myself (haha) I decided to go with built in shelves! Let me explain the thought behind my decision…

For starters, they will provide extra storage… so that’s a plus! They’ll also provide a design element that will add character and dimension to the room since I can decorate the shelves. More importantly, I’ll now how a back desk to work at when both Jordan and I are in the office. One of the main things that kept me from putting in doors was the loss of the only wall in this space. All the other walls in this room have doors on them! That would mean all four walls would have doors and it just seemed like a bit much. Not to mention that would really limit furniture layout! This way, the built ins will break things up a bit and keep the room a little more cohesive, especially if it needs to be a bedroom some day!

The shelves are going in TOMORROW! Make sure to subscribe for more updates and be sure to follow along with the progress on my Instagram stories!

  1. Shelves will be great! We have some family we stay with sometimes out of state, and when our family of 6 visits, we have utilized their office for the kids to sleep on sleeping bags. The glass double doors don’t provide much privacy (!) I just think your options are wider in the long run to not have glass doors. 🙂 I can’t wait to see your finished room!
