Our front porch is the very first thing anyone sees at Christmas, so I love giving it a little holiday love! 🎄🤍
I keep our Christmas porch simple: a big, full wreath, a few faux trees, lanterns and a cozy chair with a chunky throw. It feels welcoming from the street, it still looks good when the sun goes down early, and almost all of it comes back out year after year. Here are the Christmas front porch ideas I keep coming back to, plus a peek at how this same porch looked before our exterior refresh. Everything is linked below each photo, so just swipe through to shop!

My Simple Formula for a Christmas Front Porch

A porch doesn’t need a lot to feel festive. These six things do most of the work, and you can start with just one or two:
- Start with a big wreath. The front door is the focal point, so go full and generous. A wreath that looks a little too big up close usually looks just right from the driveway.
- Add height with faux trees. Potted trees on either side of the door (or a pair grouped on one side) frame the entry. Faux means no watering and no needles, and they hold up to the weather.
- Layer the doormat. A coir “welcome” mat on top of a larger plaid or striped outdoor rug makes the doorway feel finished and adds a little pattern.
- Bring in light. Lanterns with candles, lit trees or a glowing sconce make the porch feel warm on dark winter evenings. Battery candles with a timer are the easiest outside.
- Make it cozy. If you have room, a chair with a pillow and a knit throw instantly says “come on in.”
- Repeat one accent. We tied the same camel velvet ribbon on the wreath and the lantern sconce, which pulls the whole look together.
The Wreath, Bells and Velvet Bows

A full greenery wreath with a few rustic bells tied in is my favorite look for a front door, and the long camel velvet ribbon adds warmth against all the cream and green. A wide 3-inch velvet ribbon looks so luxe, and you can cut the tails at an angle so they hang nicely. To hang everything without drilling, an over-the-door wreath hanger works on most doors, and small adhesive toggle hooks are perfect for tying a bow onto a light fixture or hanging garland.
Faux Trees and a Layered Doormat

This is the simplest version of our porch: two potted faux trees, the wreath with a velvet bow, and a welcome mat layered over a plaid rug. Our house is painted Swiss Coffee and the door is Natural Cream, so the greenery and the warm camel tones really stand out. The exact trees from this photo aren’t available right now, so I rounded up faux cedar trees and lit trees that give the same look. The lit trees come with a remote, which makes them so easy to turn on every night. And if you’ve asked about our porch floor and brick, those are linked here too!
A Cozy Chair, Lanterns and Candlelight

If your porch has space, add a spot to sit! A wood lounge chair with cream cushions and pillows and a chunky knit throw make our porch feel like an extension of the inside of our home. Black lanterns are such a classic pairing with greenery. Place them in pairs or in a group of three in different heights by the door, and fill them with pillar candles or flameless candles so they glow at night.
Our Christmas Porch Before Our Exterior Refresh

This is the same front porch before our exterior refresh, with the white brick, our wood front door and the black mailbox. If you want to see everything we changed, here is our exterior before and after. The formula was exactly the same: a wreath with a mix of pine, cedar and berries, a mini faux tree (amazing quality and no maintenance required!), black lanterns that come in a set of 2, and a chair with a cozy throw. Festive greens, black and plaid will always be a favorite combination of mine.
